About

Born in San Jose, California, Matthew started playing piano at age 5 and switched to bass at age 15. He was awarded the John Coltrane Scholarship for Composition and Performance in 2004 and studied jazz bass with Alphonso Johnson, Charlie Haden, and Derek Oles at California Institute of the Arts. From 2010-2014, he toured and recorded with soul rock band The Broadcast from Asheville, North Carolina. His teaching resume includes summer music camps, K-12 music classes, private lessons, and workshops. In 2020, Matthew started his modular synthesizer project Ghost Kitchen and released his debut album May 2022. Matthew focuses on live improvisation and continues to collaborate with artists from all backgrounds.
